On Friday, 13 April, I had the pleasure of being hosted by the Eucerin team for their media launch and high tea at The Maslow. As I entered the conference venue, I was greeted by branding which clearly communicated “usingaye”, as we would say in Zulu, which was the Eucerin DermoPURIFYER range. Although I’ve never had acne, I found it important I share the information I’ve learned. With 13 400 reported internet searches in South Africa on acne per month, it’s evident such a product is needed in the market. The launch kick started with presentations and a scientific talk by Dr M. Reinholz. Dr Reinholz has completed his doctoral thesis in the devision in Clinical Pharmacology and now specializes as a dermatologist, has his own scientific working group and is also a lecturer. Trust me, this was all evident as he delivered an enlightening presentation. The presentation gave a…

A quick glimpse into the world of beauty and my favorite picks from the LCN Spring range “La Belle Vie”, a French interpretation of spring. Although we are currently crossing over from Summer into Autumn in South Africa, the range is still relevant to our climate and our beauty needs. What I’ve always enjoyed about the LCN Colour Gel is how their high pigment density allows for a very thin application, as well as the durability of the colors. Chunky, bulky nails are a thing of the past and no one should walking around with unnatural looking nails. LCN Nail Polish – “La Belle Vie” Range The top three colors that I absolutely believe every lady should have this season are French Mauve, A unicorn in Paris as well as Copper Rose. My nails are currently painted in French Mauve, a soft lilac color, which isn’t necessarily a big jump…

About a week ago, I had the privilege of being invited to the beautiful Munro Boutique Hotel for the launch of MPL Hair’s latest addition to the family. Upon arrival, I was blown away by the amazing views and decor. What a great space to get in conversation with other women of color on our crowns and the importance of taking care of them even under the weaves and protective styles we may opt for. When it comes to natural hair, the primary hair-care tip to never forget is to moisturize. Using oils on your hair not only leaves it moisturized, it also helps seal in the moisture the hair currently holds. The most consistent member of my hair care routine, especially as I transitioned to natural hair about 6 years ago, has been MPL Hair. With over two decades of experience and becoming the trusted name in scalp and head health,…

I’m a very practical young lady, and on days like Valentine’s Day thoughtful gifts are highly appreciated. With just a few days to go, you may be up in arms wondering what you could possibly get for your girl this Valentine’s Day. After hearing what the ladies have had to say on Twitter as well as Facebook, I’ve realised how most are on the same page and want simple gifts. So, I’ve jotted down a few PRACTICAL ideas for you which I’m sure your girl will appreciate. Wig heads Get your girl some wig heads. This may sound hilarious at first read, but trust me gents, your girl will definitely appreciate this gift and so will you. Her wigs will always be neatly placed and preserved for much longer. You can throw in some bundles in a gift bag too if you feeling extra nice. I saw a young gentleman…

Lip gloss matte kiss Matte lip gloss are still quite a thing. However, it’s always quite a daunting task having to find your favorite shade in a nourishing texture. Just because a gloss/lipstick is matte, it doesn’t mean it had to leave your lips looking and feeling dark too. As part of my collection of matte lipsticks, I have the LCN Lip gloss matte kiss in a dark berry shade. This color basically goes with any look I’m trying to pull off and what’s great about it is that it also nourishes and moisturizers the lips. It also doesn’t stain when you’re sipping on your drink, however don’t apply any extra gloss on top as this messes with the composition of the gloss and it tend to comes off easier when eating or having a drink. Ps: This product is 100% Vegan. Seductive Face and Body Diamonds Powder It’s the…

I’ve been loving the growth of the beauty industry, and more especially the products on the market which cater to ethnic skin and hair. Amongst some of the best products out are those from Nguni Botanicals, formerly known as Afrilove Creations, catering to all your hair care, skin care as well as self care needs. With their most recent re-branding move, Nguni Botanicals is well on their way to creating a brand which is synonymous with self love. Below I have had the pleasure of filing you in on who and what Nguni Botanicals is all about, as well as where you can follow them to be a part of the journey and purchase their products. Who is Nguni Botanicals? Nguni Botanicals offers botanical solutions for ethnic hair, skin and self-care. Encouraged by her own natural hair experiences, self-love journey, and appreciation for holistic healing, Nonzuzo Mkhwanazi – the eldest…

Ninety percent of brain development happens before the age of five, yet more than two thirds of South African children under the age of five are still not receiving the crucial Early Childhood Development (ECD) education that could make or break their future potential. Their development – physical, cognitive and emotional – is compromised because they are not receiving the services and care needed at this very crucial time in their young lives. This is because the right stimulation and nutrition in the first five years of a child’s life directly impacts the development of neural pathways, which will later enable learning and the development of vital interpersonal skills. With this in mind, global skincare company NIVEA is offering hope for children in a rural community in KwaZulu-Natal.  It has partnered with Thanda, a community-based organisation, to bring an innovative ECD Programme to children in this rural community. NIVEA provided…

So last night TRESemmé hosted the Inspired By New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Hair Collection. Unfortunately I was unable to make it due to work commitments, but thank goodness for social media and press releases right?!The lovely event was hosted by Lalla Hirayama, a well known presenter in the South African entertainment space. Quite an unassuming selection, but it makes perfect sense! The event showcased the latest hair trends straight off the NYFW runway. The hair styles were created by Ceecee Mabaso, a local stylist that TRESemmé partnered with and sent to work backstage at NYFW, alongside global TRESemmé hairstylist and stylist to the stars, Justine Marjan.  I know CeeCee Mabaso personally and am so thrilled she got this opportunity of a lifetime. She literally lives and breathes HAIR. Her love and passion for hair is unquestionable. CeeCee currently owns and runs her salon in Durban which is called Hair Trends.…

Some days are better than others. And on the good days, everything is always smooth sailing. However, it’s the bad days which you so happen to have so much to do and so little time! So, I got to looking up some simple beauty hacks on the internet to help my fellow sisters out with this life thing. One of my biggest struggles is applying nail polish. It’s either I get the application right but am far too impatient and end up smudging it all. Or, I remember in the last minute I have to look cute and do a terribly messy job. Some nail polishes now dry quite quickly and some simply don’t. If you’re as bad at the nail polish game and as impatient as me , here’s a beauty hack you might appreciate. I personally have found myself in safe hands with the LCN Quick Dryer right after…
