As we wrap up the month of World Environment Day ( 5 June ) , I thought I should share my concern for the environment and that I am all for sustainable fashion.

Did you know that the fashion industry is ranked as the worlds second biggest polluter after the petrochemical industry?!

After doing some reading, I’ve come to learn that Stella McCartney is one of the designers who has been at the forefront of the green movement. Living green through her personal life and through the world of fashion. Although it has taken quite some time, Stella is one of the designers to have paved a way many others have since followed. Lacoste recently crafted 10 new polo shirts, replacing their iconic crocodile with 10 endangered species. H&M is another brand to have switched up their practices as seen in their seventh Conscious Exclusive collection, launched 19 April 2018. The beautiful collection is partly made from recycled silver and regenerated fibre made from fishnets and other nylon waste – ECONYL

Look, it’s safe to say that we’ve got a long way to go. So much more still has to be done. The necessary laws and regulations which have been put in place still have to be adhered to.

As the consumer, we also have the responsibility to be conscious of how our garments are made. We have to demand a level of transparency from the brands we support. From the water consumption, to the ethics around labor practices, there’s so much we can look out for. In our personal capacity, we can play our role by up-cycling and recycling clothing. It’s the small decisions really – a little goes a long way.
